Mentoring
In Homer’s Odyssey, when Odysseus, the Greek King of Ithaca, left to fight in the 10-year Trojan War, he left his old friend Mentor to manage his household and young son Telemachus. Mentor is not mentioned that much in the Odyssey, however, the immortal Goddess Athena, disguises herself as Mentor to guide and advise both Telemachus and King Odysseus.
The modern usage of mentor – trusted friend, counsellor or teacher – first appeared in François Fénelon’s Les Aventures de Telemaque in 1699 Wikipedia (2009).
Virtual Mentoring
We’ve all been in situations where we mimic people whom we admire, trying to be just like them, and many times do so without their knowledge. We pay special attention to any information we can gather about them. A virtual mentor is a role model, a trusted friend who diligently works behind the scenes to provide helpful tips, tools and resources and any information that will assist readers from across all communications sector to attain professional success. A virtual mentor promotes self-managed mentoring by providing the necessary tools to do so.
The CWC Virtual Mentor blog provides mentoring and leadership tips and resources.
